Texas 2009

Tyson has an externship in Texas this summer for 4 weeks. We are on our way to McAllen, Texas, which is close to the southeren tip of Texas. We started our trip on Sunday afternoon and drove 6 hours to Farmington, New Mexico. The next day we went to Albuquerque and went to the zoo, which was about 3 hours away. On Tuesday we had the motherload drive. We left at 6 am and didn't get to our destination until about 10 pm that night in San Antonio, Texas. It was a very long day! We won't be doing that long of a day again on the way back home. Wednesday we drove 2 1/2 hours to Corpus Christi, Texas, which is right on the Gulf Coast. We stayed in a hotel right on the beach. We stayed at the same hotel last year and loved it. It has a fun pool that has a 1 foot deep section for little kids and then another part of the pool is heated and a separate pool that is not and then a hot tub in the middle. We stayed at that hotel for 2 nights. That was nice to have some rest from driving. We had fun on the beach digging and playing in the water. Lawson loved it but called the ocean the "yucky water." He loves jumping into the pool to Tyson and just loves being in the water. Makayla loves the swimming pools too. We have a yellow tube for babies and she loves sitting in it and kicking around. She's been so cute. Today we drove about 3 hours to Brownsville, Texas. It is on the very southern tip of Texas. It is soooooo hot! It was about 95 degrees today. It's been windy so that's helped a little. It's definitely not as humid as Corpus or San Antonio, but it feels a lot hotter. Tyson really likes the humidity down here but I don't. I don't like feeling so sweaty and gross. McAllen is about an hour away, which is where Tyson will be doing his externship (unpaid internship). Tyson served here in the Texas McAllen Mission, so that's why he loves it so much here. We are staying here in Brownsville tonight and then driving to McAllen tomorrow. We are staying in a hotel Saturday and Sunday night and then on Monday we're moving into our double-wide. That's right, we're staying in a trailer! There's a lot of "winter Texans," which are people who come here to live during the winter months and then leave in the summer (I don't blame them!). The trailer park we are staying in is a place for those types of people (mostly old people) and then during the summer they rent them out to business people or whatever. They only rent them out by the month, so it's more of a long-term stay type place. Our place has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and I'm really looking forward to that! They are fully furnished, which is really nice. It isn't available until Monday, so we have to stay in a hotel until then. We look forward to this experience. It'll be quite a change to live here and I'm excited for a bit of a change. We wish we could have all our family and friends down here to experience all this with us. Tyson will be working for a judge. He's a BYU alumni and isn't from here. I don't know much else about him but hope to learn more about him and what he does. So that's what we've been doing this past week. I hope to do several posts while we stay down here so stay tuned...
